Moon Cycles
The Moon goes through a cycle that repeats approximately every month. This cycle is created by the various angles made by the Moon orbiting the Earth, and the Earth orbiting the Sun. I am sure you have heard different names for the phases of each stage in this cycle, but this post will focus on the Full Moon stage.
A Full Moon occurs when the Moon, Earth and Sun are all in approximate alignment. The Earth is in between the Moon and the Sun, making the entire sunlit portion of the Moon visible and the entire shadowed portion hidden. On the contrary, a New Moon occurs when the Moon is in between the Earth and the Sun in approximate alignment. This makes the entire sunlit portion of the Moon hidden from our view and the shadowed portion visible.
Impact on Humans
I am sure you have heard someone speak about how the Moon cycles impact us and you may be a bit skeptical, which is totally okay. The way I like explaining this to people is that the Moon controls the tides. This is something that has been widely studied and we have accepted as a fact. If the Moon can control the tides (AKA water), then it surely can have an impact on humans, considering we are made up of 60% water. We would be naive to think that the Moon cycle has absolutely no impact on us.
With this being said, this knowledge can be applied to water regulation within our bodies and how this impacts cellular processes, including molecular diffusion, energy production and hormone balancing. Water is a key, essential source for our bodies to maintain healthy equilibriums. Without it, we would not survive and without it under proper control, we could observe health concerns.
A great example is the female menstrual cycle. Menstrual cycles are believed to follow along with the Moon cycles. In Naturopathic Medicine, there is a recommendation called Seed Cycling, which follows the Moon cycle and helps to support hormone balancing during the menstrual cycle phases. It stems from the principles of certain seeds having an impact on establishing a healthy balance of estrogen and progesterone levels during the luteal and follicular phases. By consuming different seeds throughout these stages, it can help our bodies regulate the proper hormone balance that we need to have a successful cycle. Natural Health Practitioners will recommend females follow this seed cycling pattern along the Full Moon and New Moon phases, in the hopes of eventually menstruating during one of these Moon phases and ovulating during the other. Connect with me for more details on how to seed cycle properly.
Full Moon Energy
While not a lot is studied on the Moon impact on humans, there is many old wives' tales about the Full Moon. Many movies have referenced this is when the werewolves come out, or any sort of 'crazy' creature, and even that labour induction and childbirth are affected by Full Moons. We can also find many weird things happening around a Full Moon, like changes to our sleep patterns and a large impact on mood. Considering there is a big energy shift with Full Moons, especially in reference to different zodiac signs, we can expect to feel this in some way in our lives. If you have not noticed this before, I encourage you to observe any changes in your life around the next Full Moon. You might be surprised by how much you can connect to this powerful Moon stage. And don't forget to put your crystals, Tarot Cards, Oracle Cards or any other spiritual material you please in the direct moonlight of a Full Moon for them to charge...you know I won't forget!
